SMOK Skyhook RDTA 220W Kit Overview

The SMOK Skyhook RDTA  220W Kit is an innovative, all-in-one device that harnesses some of the most alluring features of SMOK’s infamous Alien mod while promoting a new Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer design that’s affordable and user-friendly. The Skyhook Box Mod measures at 129mm tall and 50mm wide and builds off of the popular “stealth” firing bar construction, providing a new and stylistic design that maintains SMOK’s intuitive hidden firing system. The sleek chassis is constructed out of Stainless Steel and features a variety of triangular shapes and accentuating lines that showcase SMOK’s futuristic look while maintaining a truly ergonomic form factor. This powerful 200W mod is fueled by two 18650 batteries (not included) and equipped with SMOK’s latest high-powered chipset that offers full Temperature Control functionality with Stainless Steel, Nickel, and Titanium wires for your all day vaping pleasure. The Skyhook RDTA Box Mod features an internal 9mL e-juice fill capacity that’s easily accessible via threaded top cap located on the topside of the device. The opening to this massive e-liquid reservoir measures at 19mm across for easy access and is wide enough to have e-juice poured into, directly from the bottle! The Skyhook RDTA measures at 24mm in diameter and constructed out of high-quality Stainless Steel to ensure a durable product that’ll withstand the test of time. This innovative atomizer can be disassembled into four separate parts (drip tip, top cap, atomizer tube, coil deck) or easy cleaning, maintenance, and building. The included drip tip is constructed out of a heat-resistant Delrin material that quickly and effectively dissipates any excess heat that occurs during those longer and hotter vapes for an overall more pleasant and enjoyable vaping experience. The Skyhook RDTA features a two post design that houses four hexagonal side-tightening grub screws and a 10mm juice well. Unlike other RDTA Box Mods, SMOK includes a Silicone pad which can be used in place of one of the two coils to utilize single coil builds. The outer atomizer tube is equipped with eight separate airflow channels and can be opened/closed via top cap to provide precise airflow control, catering to the Mouth-to-Lungers that enjoy a more restricted draw, as well as the Direct-to-Lung Vapers that prefer a deep and wide-open draw. The seamless integration of this innovative RDTA technology and its 9mL e-juice capacity will be a dream come true for advanced DIY vapers and beginning vapers alike, providing an attractive platform for anyone that’s looking to get the benefit of dripping in an easy-to-use and novice-friendly device. If you’re looking for a new box mod that’s capable of producing RDTA amounts of vapor, or are interested in the latest evolution of SMOK’s Alien platform, check out the SMOK Skyhook 220W RDTA Box Mod today!

Additional Information:

SMOK’s SkyHook RDTA 220W Box builds off of the massive alien platform and implements a massive 9mL e-juice reservoir alongside its two-post velocity-style’d build deck. On the front of the box, you can see that SMOK labeled the SkyHook “The Alien’s Cloud Machine” in lieu of their incredibly popular 220W Alien box mod, and on the side of the box you’ll find a handful of device features as well as a scratch off authenticity code on the back.

Opening up the box, you’ll see the SkyHook mod with some silica gel, and with the insert re-moved, you’ll find some extra Cotton, a Micro USB Cable for charging and Firmware Upgrades, Silicone Pad for single-coil functionality, extra sleeve with six airflow holes, a baggy with a Hex Tool, spare O-Rings and extra Screws, Warranty/Verification Card, Battery Safety Caution Card, and the SkyHook Instruction Manual.

The SkyHook mod is a larger, alien-styled device that’s fueled by two 18650 batteries and can handle wattages that scale the way up to 220W. The charismatic SkyHook box mod is con-structed out of Stainless Steel and measures 130.5mm tall and is 50mm wide. When standing next to the 220W Alien box mod, the SkyHook seems much larger than the Alien at first glance. However, with SMOK’s popular TFV8 Cloud Beast atomizer attached to the Alien, the SkyHook is a bit shorter than the Alien with its TFV8 counterpart; thus maintaining a compact form-factor that could fit snugly in your pocket, in theory. On the front of the SkyHook is a bright OLED screen that measures almost an inch across, two regulatory buttons that sit side-by-side, and a Micro USB port that can be used for charging and firmware upgrades. The SkyHook is also equipped with SMOK’s trusted side-firing bar, and on the back of the device is SMOK’s nifty Carbon Fiber design which displays their SkyHook RDTA branding. At the bottom of the device, the SkyHook uses the same slide-out battery cover as the Alien, and inside, you can see the Gold plated battery terminals.

Five clicks of the fire button will power the device on, and the SkyHook ships with firmware ver-sion 1.0.4. On the home screen, the SkyHook clearly displays the current wattage, draw strength, battery life indicators, voltage, resistance, amperage, vape mode, board temperature, puff counter and puff duration counter at the very bottom. Three clicks of the fire bar will open the menu, which is where you can change the vape mode and draw strength, reset your puff counter, alter the screen timeout and brightness, or power the device off. The SkyHook features three individual ramp-up settings that can be used in both Wattage mode and Temperature Con-trol mode to change how quickly the device reaches your desired wattage. Normal draw-mode produces a standard ramp-up speed, Hard is the fastest and hardest ramp-up setting, and soft ramp-up mode is significantly less powerful than the other two. For temperature control users, the SkyHook is compatible with Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel coils and can handle re-sistances as low as .06 ohms, while scaling all the way up to 3 ohms. The SkyHook is also equipped with an extensive Memory Mode which allows you to save up to 22 different preset wattages and draw strengths. This feature can be especially useful if you share your device with another person that enjoys vaping with different settings.

The RDTA section sitting on top of the device consists of four separate pieces: the massive wide-bore Delrin drip tip, a threaded top cap, an outer sleeve with eight individual air inlets that can be turned to increase or decrease the air flow, and the two post velocity style deck. Pre-installed inside the SkyHook RDTA is a dual 0.27 ohm Clapton coil build. These high-powered Clapton coils are sitting just above two ginormous airflow channels and will need to be wicked before use. The juice well of the RDTA has been removed so your wicks can be pulled through the bottom of the deck and into the massive 9mL e-juice reservoir. To fill up the tank, simply un-screw the juice cap and fill away. If you’re looking to blow fatty clouds of voluptuous vapors, the SkyHook needs only to be wicked and filled with your favorite e-juice and you are good to go. If you’re a flavor connoisseur or prefer a more restrictive vape, remove one of the pre-installed Clapton coils with the included Hex tool and insert the Silicone Pad in its place.

Before grabbing some cotton and wicking the RDTA, set your SkyHook device to a lower watt-age, between 30-40 Watts, and begin pulse firing the build. If the coils are heating up red from the middle or inside out, you are ready to wick the coils. If the coils are glowing red from the out-side in, grab some ceramic tweezers and apply pressure to the outside of the coil. Once your coil is ready, grab a piece of cotton that’s not too thick or too thin and begin rolling up one of the ends. Once it’s nice and pointy, you can feed it through the coil and out through the other side. You want there to be some resistance here, but not too much, or else the cotton will not be able to absorb the e-juice properly. Now push or pull the cotton through the base until it’s just barely sticking out from below the deck, and then repeat this process for the other side of the coil. Now that the wick is set, grab the cotton that’s coming out of the coil and pull it back upwards through the base. This will prevent any hard angles in your wick that could potentially stop the flow of e-juice from getting to the coil. Without pulling too hard on the wick, measure and cut the cotton so its sitting just below the threads of the tank. You’ll want to fluff out the ends of the cotton after you’ve cut it, so that your wick is covering as much surface area underneath the deck as possi-ble. This will help prevent any accidental leaking that may happen if the device tips over. Now you can begin saturating your wick with your favorite e-juice, and then fill the tank.

The RDTA style was originally implemented by iJoy with their 200W RDTA Box released earlier this year. In terms of size, iJoys RDTA is slightly bigger than the SkyHook and offers a maxi-mum fill capacity of 12.8mL of e-juice, or 4mL larger than the SkyHook. iJoy’s RDTA Box is compatible with 11 different types of replacement decks and arrives with an IMC 3 coil, which is already wicked and ready to be used straight away. The SkyHook mod is more powerful than iJoys RDTA, and arrives with a dual Clapton setup pre-installed and ready to be wicked. The SkyHook’s deck will also hold larger coil builds than iJoy’s RDTA, due to it’s larger post holes. If you enjoy building your own coils on a wide, velocity-style deck, SMOK’s SkyHook RDTA would be a better choice for you. If you plan on utilizing iJoys extensive line of replacement IMC decks sold separately, or would prefer having the option of pre-wrapped and pre-wicked coils, iJoy’s RDTA box might be a better choice for you. SMOK’s 220W SkyHook RDTA Box Mod provides every benefit of an RDA without the constant need for dripping, in a slender alien-esque device. If you’re a veteran vaper that loves to build your own coils, or a novice vaper that’s curious about the expansive RDA world, the SkyHook RDTA offers a unique style that’ll help take your vape to the next level.
