The Pico Dual is Eleaf’s fourth addition to the Pico platform, and is by far the most powerful, with a maximum wattage output of 200W. This incredibly compact device is constructed out of a lightweight alloy that features a unique triangular shape that fits well in the hand, measuring at 75mm tall and 46mm wide. When compared to the original Pico, the Pico Dual is only 4mm taller than the original. When compared to Smok’s popular and impressively small 220W Alien device, the Pico Dual is actually 10mm shorter, however 16mm wider. These impressive specs will ap-peal to anyone that’s looking for the smallest dual battery device that can still maintain an im-pressive power output.
On top of the Pico Dual, the Pico features a stainless threaded 510 connection and the hexago-nal spring-loaded contact pin. This surface measures at 25mm in diameter and is fully compati-ble with those larger 25mm tanks and RDA’s. On the front of the device is a large firing button, OLED display, and the 1.5A quick-charge micro usb port for fast charging and firmware up-grades. Similar to the original Pico, the regulatory buttons are located on the bottom of the de-vice, however, unlike the original, the two 18650 batteries are loaded into the bottom via flip-open battery cover and not through top of the device.
With the batteries installed, the device powers on, and immediately you can see the Eleaf logo and the in-the-box vaping settings. You can choose between one of four home screen presets by holding down the fire button and the plus button (+) simultaneously. This will allow you to choose between displaying your puff counter, the total vaping seconds, voltage, or the simplified inter-face. Pressing the fire button three times will allow you to switch from wattage mode to the three temperature control modes. This device is compatible with Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel temperature control wires. There is also 3 customizable TCR modes that allow you to set your own temperature coefficient of Resistance. This is helpful for many reasons, but what’s most impressive is the fact that you’ll be able to use the Pico Dual with any Temperature Control wire in the future that’s NOT already programmed into the device, so long as you know the TCR val-ue of the wire you will be using. Pushing the fire button two times will allow you to disable the Eleaf logo that displays on startup. You can also create your own logo and upload it to the Pico Dual using the Eleaf firmware. Holding down the Fire button and the minus button (-) will enable stealth mode and prevent the screen from turning on while you vape, and holding down both of the regulatory buttons will lock the current wattage. Pressing the fire button five times will power the device off. In a powered off state, you can flip the screen orientation by holding down both regulatory buttons.
One of the most impressive features of the Pico Dual is its power bank potential. If your cell phone is about to die, you can siphon the power from the Pico Dual and transfer it directly to your cell phone. To do this, thread on the 510 RC power adapter that was included in the box. Plug in your cell phone’s charge cable, and then power the device on. Next, press the fire button a single time, and the Pico Dual will start charging your phone.
The Melo III Mini is a compact 2mL sub-ohm tank that’s constructed out of Stainless Steel and Pyrex glass, standing at 55mm tall and 22mm wide. On top of the tank, Eleaf installed a remov-able heat-insulated 510 drip tip, and a threaded top cap that can be removed to show the two large top-fill fill-ports. The base of the Melo III is equipped with a hidden adjustable airflow ring that can be opened or closed with a twist of the base, as well as a 510 connection on the very bottom. Pre-installed inside this tank is a powerful 0.3 ohm Kanthal coil head that’s rated for best use between 30 and 80W. This atomizer head is wicked with pure organic cotton and features four large wicking ports for non-stop wicking. Eleaf also constructed a Stainless Steel mesh into the top of these atomizer heads to prevent any kind of spit-back that might occur as a result of higher wattages during those hotter vapes.
All in all, Eleaf’s new Pico Dual kit raises the bar for compact devices that are fueled by two 18650 batteries. The bold, lightweight chassis adds to the overall look and feel of the device, giv-ing the Pico Dual an original look that’ll definitely stand out in a crowd. Introducing a quick overview of Temperature Control Vaping. Are you tired of that horrible taste you get from a dry hit? Tired of burning the wick in your coil and having to replace it, and at the worst possible time too? Are you tired of vapes that are just too hot? If so, it sounds like Temperature Control Vaping might be right for you. Temperature Control Vaping seems to be the next step in harm reduction for nicotine users by creating a fool proof way of limiting the temperature of the coils preventing burnt wicks or dry hits or simply keeping it from getting hotter than you prefer. Here we will discuss this technology, what it is, and why we want it. We strong recommend to use reliable and authentic vape batteries with your Temperature Control Vape Device and Vape Kit: LG HG2 18650 LiMn 3000mAh Battery and Sony VTC4 18650 2100mAh 30A Battery What Is Temperature Control Vaping: The Temperature Control (TC) feature of your vaporizer allows you to pre-set a value in Celsius / Fahrenheit that your coil temperature will not exceed. When the TC feature detects that the coil hits your pre-set (temperature) value, it acts as a limiter and will adjust, restrict, or cut-off the power to the coil until the temperature falls below your pre-set temperature value. TC keeps your coil temperature at a fixed rate, no matter what your preferred vaping style is, whether it’s little inhales, big inhales, mouth to lung inhales, straight... Learn more
Welcome to Misthub's Guide to Variable Voltage / Variable Wattage Mods. While these devices were once rare and very costly, the rapid evolution of vaping has made these devices quite popular, widely available and very affordable. Today we will discuss what is a variable voltage / variable wattage device, how they work, and the various advantages and disadvantages of these devices. What Is A VV/VW Mod? A VV/VW Mod at it's simplest is a battery powered vaping device that uses circuitry to regulate its output power and allows adjustment of it's output power in two ways: 1. By adjusting the voltage. 2. By adjusting the wattage. Additionally these devices employ protection circuitry to provide a wide variety of safety features to protect the user and/or prevent damage to the device itself. The safety features of VV/VW Mods make them a fantastic device for new and veteran vapers alike. Today, there is a massive selection of these types of these devices. Their maximum output power and other features are just as varied. With so many choices in devices it's good to know they are all quite similar internally. These devices are controlled by a micro processor which is what allows for and controls the variable settings, safety features, and secondary features like displaying battery life, atomizer resistance, etc. The only significant internal differences are the microprocessor itself, whether it uses replaceable or internal batteries, and if those batteries are in a parallel or a series circuit. Battery placement determines if... Learn more
Overview of Ohms Law and Vape Safety Mechanical mods, high wattage regulated mods, rebuild-able dripping atomizers and rebuild-able tank atomizers are becoming extremely popular. Most experienced vapers quickly realize the cost savings of rebuilding and make simple RDA's / RBA's and RTA's part of their daily life. It's no surprise - for the cost of a pack of coils you could buy a year supply of kanthal wire and organic cotton - the building blocks of most vape coils built today. Additionally, self build coils in RDA's tend to produce a lot more vapor and superb flavor over traditional coils, but this post is not about that. This post is about vaping safely and what that means. Let's face it, a metal tube with a high voltage battery or a high wattage (think 150W) box mod with two is nothing to smirk at. You are putting that thing right next to your eyes, mouth and face and firing (activating) it. You WANT to be safe! Before building your first coil, it is highly recommended to buy an ohms meter. This is a device that will tell you the resistance of the coils on your atomizer. Armed with resistance (Ω) you will be able to easily figure out if your setup is safe. But first, what exactly is "safety" when it comes to mods and e-cigs? Easy, the batteries used today for most mechanical and box mods are either 18650 or 26650 series batteries. These batteries vary in Amps - amps... Learn more
Introduction to Variable Voltage vs. Variable Wattage for E-cigs There is a lot of confusion between variable voltage vs. variable wattage for e-cigs. Both variable voltage and variable wattage are technologies that control the power output delivered to your e-juice delivery device like atomizer, cartomizer, or clearomizer. If you are unfamiliar with different types of e-liquid delivery devices be sure to check out our Tutorial: Atomizer vs. Cartomizer vs. Clearomizer. Some people prefer variable voltage to variable wattage, and in most cases it boils down to skill level and the level of control you want when vaping. Although, variable voltage and variable wattage control power output of your battery, they achieve the same result in a different way. The choice between variable voltage and variable wattage comes into play if your tend to switch between different types, brands and models of atomizers, cartomizers, and clearmizers. As you know from our previous tutorials, different type, brands, and models come with different resistance levels of coils. To achieve desired power output while using a variable voltage battery you will need to know the resistance level of your e-juice delivery device. Using the Vaping Power Chart and the resistance level (in Ohms) you will need to cross-reference or calculate appropriate voltage to achieve desired power output or wattage. With variable wattage feature resistance level of a coil is calculated automatically by a microprocessor of electronic cigarette. There is no need to use Vaping Power Chart or do calculations by hand. However, it is... Learn more
Significance of Variable Voltage and Vaping Power Chart Modern electronic cigarettes come with many features and one of these features is variable voltage. Not every e-cigarette comes with option of variable voltage, some already come with preconfigured constant power output. These types of e-cigarette are simple to use and more suitable for beginners. They deliver predesigned power to model specific atomizer, cartomizer, or clearomizer. However, more advance users prefer an option of variable voltage which allows them to control power output to achieve ideal vapor production. Them main reason why you would choose a variable voltage electronic cigarette over constant power e-cigarette, is the variety of different types and brands of atomizers, cartomizers, and clearomizers on the market today. If you are unfamiliar with different types of e-juice delivery devices be sure to check out our Tutorial: Atomizer vs. Cartomizer vs. Clearomizer. Different types and brands of atomizers, cartomizers, and clearomizers all have one thing in common, they all have some type of heating coil which converts power delivered by your batter to heat. The heating coil can have different resistence level, which simply means that it requires different power levels to achieve ideal heating temperature. Consequently, variable voltage option allows you to set ideal power output depending on brand and model of atomizers, cartomizers, and clearomizers you are using. It is important to note that highest voltage is usually not ideal power setting and can lead to burning of e-juice or even risk of coil burnout. Therefore, always pay... Learn more
What is Sub-Ohm Vaping? What is sub-ohm vaping? Simply put it is vaping on a device whose atomizer coils have a resistance of less than one ohm. The reason some advanced vapers “sub-ohm” is to increase the power output of fixed voltage devices like mechanical vape mods and non-variable regulated devices to create more vapor or flavor. Although it might sound simple it's actually a complex and often controversial topic within the vaping community. The goal of this guide is to make sure you have accurate information so you can decide if sub-ohm vaping is right for you. How Does Sub-Ohm Vaping Work? All mechanical mods, VV/VW regulated mods and e-cigarettes are electrical devices powered by a battery. Sub-ohm vaping utilizes the principles of Ohm's and Joule’s laws of electricity. For our purposes this means, a non-variable voltage source like for instance the battery in a mechanical vape mod will increase the overall power output (wattage) of your device when you decrease the resistance (ohms) of your coils. It is absolutely crucial that sub-ohm vaping must be done safely. As you decrease your resistance you will increase the amperage your device uses to supply the current needed. This increases the strain on the battery and also increases heat that the battery and coils generate. For this reason you must ensure that you never exceed the amperage limit of your battery or it could fail causing possible fire or explosion. Is Sub-Ohm Vaping Dangerous? Is sub-ohm vaping dangerous? The honest... Learn more
You might think that the electronic technology involved in vaping is similar to the electronics involved in a smartphone or a flashlight, and for the most part, you would be right. The basic principles are the same. But then you notice that the batteries we’re using are a little more stout than the AA’s in your TV remote. Then you might see a news report where someone sets his backpack on fire with a mod, and you wonder, how? How does this happen with vaping but not with your MP3 player? Here’s the thing: vaping requires power, and we don’t mean power like a portable Bluetooth speaker uses. We mean massive current. Vaping uses power like almost no other consumer electronic device, at a tremendous rate, meaning that there are serious risks. Newer devices have loads of safety features, but they can’t eliminate every possible way to abuse your gear. And that’s why we need to talk about safety. As it has been for many years, the vaper’s battery of choice is the 18650 cell. That’s a size measurement, 18mm diameter and 65mm long. The 18650 comes in a lot of different varieties with a lot of different performance ratings. And vaping requires the best. When you factor in weight, longevity, price, and the ability to handle huge amperage, the 18650 owns every other type of battery, which is why you see them bundled into almost every high-powered electrical device you can buy, from computers to power tools to... What are the best batteries for mods? And what is the right battery to use in your mod? It's actually the most important questions someone can ask before vaping on a new device. All personal vaporizers utilize high discharge lithium batteries. These batteries are by far the most crucial part of your device. When handled properly they are quite safe but if mishandled can be dangerous (especially in a mechanical mod). Below you will find everything you need to select the best battery for mods as well as tips to keep it working in tip top condition for the duration of its lifespan. Size, Does it matter? Yes, Most mods will only fit the size battery it is intended to use and it is strongly recommended to use only the size specified for your device. In some cases multiple smaller batteries can be stacked to fit in a device. Battery stacking should be avoided. Stacking batteries increases the batteries voltage and can cause the batteries or the device to fail. Brand, Does it matter? Absolutely, using an authentic battery from a reputable brand will ensures your battery will operate safely and as intended within its rated specifications. Your safety matters, so we recommend the following brands: Sony, Efest, Samsung, and Orbtronic. Other reputable brands include MXJO, EH, MNKE, Panasonic, LG, and AW . Using low quality batteries runs the risk of damaging your device and potentially injuring you and others. A little extra money spent on quality batteries... Learn more
